2017 Suzuki V-Strom 250 Fast Facts

One theme of 2017 EICMA (Milan Motorcycle Show) is that more and more OEMs are catering to the entry-level, smaller-displacement market. The most notable unveils were the Honda CRF250L Rally and the BMW G 310 GS, along with the revamped KTM 390 Duke.

Now there’s another player in this sought-after market—the Suzuki V-Strom 250. This becomes the third model in the V-Strom lineup, which also includes the V-Strom 1000 and 650 models. These two bikes are also available as more off-road worthy “XT” variants, which were unveiled at Intermot in Cologne, Germany, last month.

Since its introduction in 2002 with the DL1000, the V-Strom has provided a bullet-proof platform that provides all-day comfort. I know this personally; I have a 2002 built for off-road adventure with over 80,000 miles that has never let me down.

The 2017 Suzuki V-Strom 250 will now bring this comfortable reliability to a new market of riders, though it has yet to be confirmed for the USA. If it does reach America, Ultimate Motorcycling is looking forward to riding the new Wee 250. Until then, here are the Fast Facts.

1. The V-Strom 250 is powered by a redesigned version of Suzuki’s 248cc parallel twin that also powers the GW250. The engine produces 25 horsepower @ 8000 rpm and 17 ft/lbs of torque @ 6500 rpm. Suzuki says the engine is tuned for optimal low- to mid-range torque.

2. Suzuki claims about 300 miles on a single tank of gas, but the gas-tank size was not released.

3. The Suzuki V-Strom 250 will have a 31-inch seat height, and weigh around 420 lbs. wet. To put this into perspective, the V-Strom 1000’s seat height is 33.4 inches, and the 650’s 32.9 inches.

4. With a nod towards street riding, the V-Strom 250 arrives with two 17” wheels.

5. With its signature beak and lack of side fairings, the styling is similar to its older brothers. Suzuki offers the bike in red, black or our favorite, the yellow, which pays homate to Suzuki’s DR-Z Dakar racer and RM-Z motocross bikes.

6. The V-Strom 250 arrives with a reverse-lit LCD instrument panel. The data includes a speedometer, rev counter, gear position indicator, and fuel range.

7. The V-Strom 250’s windscreen “has been extensively wind tunnel tested for optimized weather protection.”

8. Just like its older siblings, the V-Strom 250 arrives with an integrated luggage system that accepts optional Suzuki side cases. A top box is also available as an accessory.
