The new CBR150r
When we first laid eyes on this this motorcycle, we knew this bike was meant to race.
It’s got the contour, the right sitting position, the aerodynamics, an engine quite powerful for a bike its size… all the things that will encourage the rider to twist the throttle to full speed and emulate his MotoGP hero.
But we’re getting ahead of ourselves here.
The latest incarnate of the Honda CBR150R was inspired by MotoGP DNA, hence, the sporty-aggressive design akin to superbikes.
We got the chance to test this baby and we’re immediately impressed by the looks. It comes with a pair of keen eye headlights, sleek side and rear cowls, and stylish muffler. All these attributes contribute to the eye catching design that turned heads wherever we go.
Then we swung our leg over and immediately felt like we’ll be riding a race horse. More like 16.9 race horses actually, because the new CBR150R’s 150cc, liquid cooled, 4 stroke, DOHC – 4 valve engine could deliver up to 16.9 Bhp @ 9000 rpm and 13.0 Nm/7,500 rpm of maximum torque.
It is also supported by an innovative truss frame, which is designed to maximize the performance of Honda’s Pro- Link suspension system, and reduce engine vibration. The handlebar is a plus, too, because it offers more turning radius compared to other 150ccs.
Master the bike in a day and you’ll feel capable of weaving your way out of metro traffic because of its improved stability and riding comfort.
Other features that make this bike a winner are the double disc-brake, digital meter panel with integrated information (speedometer, odometer, trip meter, fuel meter, clock, and engine temperature), new aluminum rear foot step, and secure key shutter.
Oooh, and we almost forgot. The speed! This bike growls at low gears and seemed to beg to be shifted to the mid-gears. It feels most powerful at midrange, then it wanes down a bit past 9000 rpm. The torque gives you enough confidence to pass other vehicles. Walang kaba-kaba.
The biggest surprise with this new CBR150R is that is sips fuel. Yes, you read it right. It doesn’t guzzle much petrol unlike other 150cc bikes. The bike registered 47 kms to a liter while were handling it at various speeds. Hell, it sips fuel like a 125cc bike.
The bike is a perfect upgrade for riders who are mature enough to go from underbone-standard to “semi-big bikes.”
The Honda CBR150R comes in black, red, and orange. It’s being sold for P150,000 per unit.
